Taxi driver granted $700,000 bail for illegal gun, ammunition

Ryan Lewis, a 37-year-old taxi driver of Shoe Lane, New Amsterdam, Berbice, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without a Licence and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without a Licence on Friday.

Lewis appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Bail was granted in the sum of $400,000 for the firearm charge and $300,000 for the ammunition charge.

The matter was adjourned to July 6, 2026.
