Deputy Superintendent injured after truck crashes into car on Garden of Eden Public Road


A Deputy Superintendent of Police attached to the Immigration Department sustained a fractured arm and other injuries after the car she was driving was struck by a motor lorry along the Garden of Eden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. and involved motor lorry GAD 9996, driven by a 26-year-old man of Ogle, East Coast Demerara, and motor car PAF 8496, driven by the 49-year-old senior police officer.
According to preliminary police investigations, the Deputy Superintendent was travelling south along the eastern driving lane of the Garden of Eden Public Road when the lorry, which was travelling in the opposite direction, allegedly veered onto her lane and collided with the right front portion of her vehicle.
The impact caused the car to spin before coming to a stop facing a south-easterly direction.
The injured officer was assisted by an Emergency Medical Team and taken to the New Diamond Regional Hospital, where doctors treated her for injuries about her body and diagnosed her with a fractured right arm.
Police said a breathalyzer test conducted on the lorry driver found no trace of alcohol in his system.
Investigations into the collision are continuing.
