Fire tender damages government vehicle at National Stadium; police probe incident

Police are investigating an incident at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, on Saturday morning after a Guyana Fire Service fire tender struck a portable light pole, causing damage to a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Housing
The incident occurred at about 11:41 hrs while a 50-year-old Leading Fireman was driving the fire tender.
According to police, the fire tender was attempting to exit through a gate on the eastern side of the tarmac when it came into contact with a portable light pole. The impact caused the pole to fall onto a Ministry of Housing vehicle that was parked nearby.
The government vehicle sustained damage to its right-side driver’s door and fender.
Police said that while investigators were processing the scene, a commotion broke out involving the fire tender driver, police ranks and other members of the Guyana Fire Service.
The disturbance reportedly arose as officers attempted to have the driver accompany them as part of the investigation.
The situation was later brought under control without further incident.
Police said investigations into both the collision and the subsequent disturbance are continuing.
