Gone too soon: Guyana mourns promising dancehall artiste Lil’ Saint

Guyana’s entertainment fraternity is mourning the loss of promising dancehall and soca artiste Lil’ Saint, whose untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the local music community.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport extended its deepest condolences to the young entertainer’s family, friends and supporters, describing him as a gifted performer with a bright future.
“Lil’ Saint was an emerging force in the local entertainment landscape, recognized for his versatility across the Dancehall and Soca genres. His passion, creativity and dedication left a lasting impression on audiences and fellow musicians alike,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry noted that Lil’ Saint competed in its 2025 Dancehall Monarch Competition, where he captured second place while also earning the Best Newcomer award, recognition that underscored his growing influence in Guyana’s music industry.
“The Ministry joins his family, friends, fans and the wider creative community in mourning this tragic loss. We honour his contribution to Guyana’s cultural and musical landscape and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who knew and loved him,” the statement added.
The circumstances surrounding the artiste’s death remain unclear.
In an emotional Facebook Live broadcast recorded before his death, Lil’ Saint revealed that he had been battling serious health complications for the past four years, which he attributed to excessive alcohol use.
Speaking candidly to his followers, he said he had suffered persistent abdominal pain and vomiting and had undergone medical evaluations at several public health institutions, including hospitals in Lethem and Georgetown. According to the artiste, doctors eventually diagnosed him with a condition affecting his pancreas, and he was preparing to undergo what he described as major surgery.
Although he admitted he had been frightened by the prospect of the operation and had postponed it twice, Lil’ Saint said he had found the courage to move forward.
He also used the livestream to express heartfelt gratitude to his wife, crediting her with standing by him through his illness and encouraging him during some of his darkest moments.
“I really love my wife,” he said. “She stood up for me when I didn’t believe in myself. She made me believe in myself… She encouraged me to do the right thing and never gave up on me when I was extremely down.”
His final public message has since resonated with fans, many of whom have taken to social media to share tributes, celebrate his music and reflect on his honesty about his health struggles.
As condolences continue to pour in, Lil’ Saint is being remembered not only for his energetic performances and lyrical talent, but also for the courage he displayed in openly sharing his personal battle and expressing gratitude to those who stood beside him.
He leaves behind a grieving family, a devoted fan base and a music community mourning the loss of one of its promising young voices.
