Motorcyclist dies in Essequibo Coast crash; driver in custody


A 45-year-old construction worker died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a motor car along the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast, on Saturday afternoon.
Police identified the deceased as Satesh Persaud of Reliance Housing Scheme.
Investigators say Persaud was attempting to cross the public road from an access road when he reportedly entered the path of an oncoming car, resulting in the collision.
He suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the Lima Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The 46-year-old driver of the motor car remains in police custody assisting with investigations. A breathalyzer test found 48 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
Police investigations are continuing.
