International: Trump loses Supreme Court battle to end birthright citizenship

[BBC] – The US Supreme Court has struck down US President Donald Trump’s order limiting birthright citizenship. A majority of the nine justices were unwilling to reverse the language of the US constitution in order to deliver a victory for Trump.
Trump has pushed to end automatic citizenship for babies born to parents who are in the country illegally or on temporary visas.
Trump’s earlier executive order was blocked by lower courts, sending the case to the highest court in the US.
Opponents say the order violated the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment, which says that people “born or naturalised” in the country are citizens. The US is one of about 30 countries that grant automatic citizenship to anyone born within their borders.
