Ann’s Grove shopkeeper sentenced to over 3 years for drug trafficking


A 26-year-old shopkeeper from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, has been sentenced to three years and five months in prison after being found guilty of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Ezekiel Lewis called ‘Bell’ was convicted on Tuesday following a trial before the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Police said Lewis was arrested on October 8, 2025 and charged two days later under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
He first appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed on October 10, 2025, when the charge was read to him. Lewis pleaded not guilty, and the matter proceeded to trial.
At the conclusion of the trial on Tuesday, the court found Lewis guilty and he was sentenced.
