Galaxy of stars to light up Anna Regina for stadium opening on July 3

Anna Regina is set to host an unforgettable evening of cricket, entertainment and celebration on July 3 as a galaxy of stars converges for the grand opening of the new stadium, marking a major milestone for sports and community development in Region Two.
The opening celebrations will be headlined by a T20 match featuring two teams captained by legendary West Indian batting icons Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, promising fans a showcase of elite talent and exciting cricket.
Lara XI will feature an impressive mix of international experience and homegrown stars.
The dynamic left-arm spin duo Gudakesh Motie and Veerasammy Permaul will spearhead the bowling attack, while explosive batting firepower will come from the formidable trio of Quentin Sampson, Christopher Barnwell and Kevlon Anderson.
Chanderpaul XI will be equally power-packed, with Guyana Amazon Warriors Global Super League and Caribbean Premier League selectee, as well as West Indies Under-19 standout, Jonathan Van Lange joining an exciting line-up that includes stylish opener Matthew Nandu, wicketkeeper-batter Kemol Savory, off-spinning all-rounder Richie Looknauth, and all-rounders Kevin Sinclair and Thaddeus Lovell.
The match will also provide a nostalgic treat for cricket fans as several former Guyana national players return to the field for the special occasion.
Among those expected to dust off their gear are Assad Fudadin, Anthony Bramble, Norwayne Fredericks, Kevon Boodie, Ricardo Adams, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Leon Johnson, Delon Heyliger, Jonathan Foo, Devendra Bishoo and Royston Crandon, adding further quality and experience to an already star-studded contest.
Adding even greater excitement, President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Steven Jacobs will suit up for Lara XI, while Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. will represent Chanderpaul XI in what promises to be a memorable exhibition encounter.
Beyond the on-field action, spectators will be treated to an exciting programme of cultural performances, fireworks and military display, creating a festive atmosphere worthy of the opening of a facility expected to become a premier venue for sports, youth development and major events on the Essequibo Coast.
The new stadium represents a significant investment in Guyana’s sporting infrastructure and underscores the Government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for athletes while strengthening community engagement through sport and recreation.
