Owner suspected of setting fire to East La Penitence building


An early morning fire, believed to have been deliberately set by the owner, destroyed a building at East La Penitence Housing Sewage Compound, Georgetown.
According to the Guyana Fire Service, the blaze was reported at 04:16 hrs.
Firefighters responded promptly and immediately began firefighting operations.
However, by the time they arrived, the Fire Service said the structure was already completely engulfed in flames. The building and all its contents were destroyed.
The Guyana Fire Service said the fire is suspected to have been deliberately set by the owner, who was smoking at the time.
Investigations are ongoing.
