Two arrested after armed robbery in Covent Garden


Two persons including a teenager were arrested after a 20-year-old auto body technician was allegedly held at gunpoint and robbed of his cellular phone at Covent Garden New Scheme, East Bank Demerara on Monday.
Police Headquarters in a statement said the robbery occurred at about 20:00 hrs while the victim was walking east along Covent Garden New Scheme with his cellular phone in his hand.
According to preliminary investigations, two men approached the victim from behind on a motorcycle.
Police said one of the suspects, who was reportedly armed with a handgun, got off the motorcycle, pointed the weapon at the victim, and relieved him of the phone.
The suspects then escaped from the scene on the motorcycle.
The incident was later reported to the Police, who subsequently recovered the stolen cellular phone.
The two suspects remain in custody at the Providence Police Station.
