No new COVID-19 cases recorded in Region Six – REO

Region Six has not recorded any new COVID-19 infections over the past week, according to Regional Executive Officer Ronald Harsawack.
Speaking at the Region Six Regional Democratic Council’s monthly statutory meeting on Thursday, Harsawack said the region is no longer recording positive cases and health officials remain on alert to prevent any resurgence.
He reminded councillors that the region experienced a cluster of infections last month when 27 positive cases were detected at the Port Mourant Apprentices Hostel. Additional cases were later identified at Port Mourant Primary School and Lower Corentyne Secondary School.
According to Harsawack, immediate measures were implemented to contain the spread of the virus.
“We had cases of COVID-19 in the region; we didn’t have an outbreak of COVID in the region,” he said.
Harsawack stated that students who tested positive were placed in quarantine and closely monitored, while steps were taken to safeguard other students and staff at the affected institutions.
“For the past couple of days, going into this week, we had no positive cases reported throughout the region. So I want to believe that because of our actions it helped. We are still vigilant,” Harsawack told the meeting.
He noted that regional authorities will continue monitoring the situation closely to ensure COVID-19 remains under control across Region Six.
