South Ruimveldt man, 33, granted $100,000 bail on armed robbery charge


John Sampson, a 33-year-old resident of Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, has been charged in connection with an armed robbery and granted $100,000 bail.
Police Headquarters said in a release that the charge was laid under Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, relating to an incident involving a 30-year-old housewife of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, on Thursday.
Sampson appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. The matter was adjourned to July 30, 2026.
According to an earlier police report, the woman had exited a supermarket and was walking along a street when two men in a white motor car approached her. One of the suspects, who was reportedly armed with a knife, exited the vehicle, pointed the weapon at her, and took a yellow metal chain and a yellow metal ring. She sustained injuries to one of her fingers during the incident.
The matter was reported to police, and ranks subsequently intercepted the motor car in Georgetown. Sampson was arrested, while police continue to search for the second suspect.
