Through model partnership, Akawini residents get water supply system

Through a model partnership, the Indigenous community of Akawini in Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam) now has a water supply system.
In a Facebook post, Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali said the supply system was developed in partnership between the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and the village.
“Residents assisted with the installation of pipelines and continue to work alongside GWI in maintaining and repairing the system. Villagers also praised the improved access to quality water and the high standard of service,” the President’s Facebook post noted.
Dr. Ali described this collaboration as a model partnership for sustainable, community-supported water supply.
President Ali travelled to Akawini on Friday as part of a Region Two cabinet outreach this weekend. The outreach gives residents the opportunity to engage directly with Cabinet members, raise concerns, and discuss ways to improve livelihoods and advance community development.
