Two persons remanded to prison after armed robbery

Jaden Jackson, 18, of Tucville, Georgetown, and Mark Major, 25, of Waterloo Street, Georgetown, were remanded to prison on Friday after they were jointly charged with the offence of Robbery Under Arms.
Earlier this week, the men were allegedly involved in the robbery of a 20-year-old auto body technician who was held at gunpoint. The 20-year-old man was robbed of his cellular phone at Covent Garden New Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said the robbery occurred at about 20:00 hrs while the victim was walking east along Covent Garden New Scheme with his cellular phone in his hand. According to preliminary investigations, two men approached the victim from behind on a motorcycle. Police said one of the suspects, who was reportedly armed with a handgun, got off the motorcycle, pointed the weapon at the victim, and relieved him of the phone.
The suspects then escaped from the scene on the motorcycle. The incident was later reported to the Police, who subsequently recovered the stolen cellular phone. The two suspects were later arrested.
On Friday, Police Headquarters said Jackson and Major appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the charge was read to them.
They both pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to July 17, 2026.
