Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, while continuing to perform the functions of Minister of Home Affairs in the absence of that Ministry’s substantive Minister, the Honourable Oneidge Walrond today received the ‘eyes right’ salute during the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF’s) annual Route March Parade. The Parade took place in front of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Georgetown. It forms part of the Force’s 187th anniversary celebrations which kicked off at the beginning of the month and will continue throughout July.

Dr. Singh, on behalf of President Irfaan Ali, congratulated the GPF on its 187th year of faithful service and assured the Force that Government remains deeply committed to its shared vision with the GPF in building a safer, stronger, and more secure Guyana.

On July 1, the GPF launched the month long 187th celebrations with a Drum Head Church Service at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Police Headquarters Eve Leary where Minister Singh was in attendance.

The GPF was established on July 1, 1839, as was previously referred to as the British Guiana Police Force in the pre-independence era. The parade forms part of the GPF’s monthly long yearly anniversary celebrations to showcase discipline, professionalism, and unity of the policemen and women who proudly serve and protect the nation.

The month-long GPF 187th anniversary celebrations will continue with the following activities taking place : an Inter-Divisions (Male & Female) Domino Competition, a Fitness Walk, Rugby Games, a Welfare Day, the Fallen Heroes (Wreath Laying) Ceremony, President’s National Clean Up Initiative, 5-A-Side Inter-Regions (Male & Female) Football Competitions, the Commissioner of Police T-20 Cricket Finals, an Awards Ceremony, a Night of Fights, a Road Relay, an Annual Swimming Championship and a Track & Field Championship.
