Al Habibi’s Archery Club officially affiliated to Archery Guyana

Archery Guyana has officially welcomed Al Habibi’s Archery Club (A.H.A.) as its newest affiliated member, marking a major step forward in the governing body’s mission to decentralise and expand the sport across the country.

The official handover of the Club’s Certificate of Affiliation took place on July 1, 2026.

During a brief ceremony, President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, presented the certificate to Jaza Percival, President and Head Coach of Al Habibi’s Archery Club.

Established on May 18, 2025, Al Habibi’s Archery Club is based out of the Samville Kuru Kururu Masjid on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

The club is also cleared to host activities at other approved community venues.

This strategic location opens up organised archery to children, youth, and adults along the highway corridor, providing structured access to a sport that continues to grow rapidly in Guyana.

The club will be led by a newly appointed Executive Committee:

• President and Head Coach: Jaza Percival
• Vice President: Shane Arinda
• Secretary and Treasurer: Lesa Waldron-Percival

Speaking at the presentation, Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon emphasized that structural growth is key to the sport’s long-term success.

“One of Archery Guyana’s strategic priorities has always been to build the sport from the ground up by establishing strong, sustainable clubs throughout the country,” Persaud-McKinnon stated.

“Affiliation is much more than receiving a certificate… it is a commitment to good governance, athlete welfare, safe sport, technical excellence, and the values that define our Federation.”

Upon receiving the certificate, Club President and Head Coach Jaza Percival expressed excitement for the future, noting that the club aims to bridge communities through sport.

“Our vision is to provide a welcoming and disciplined environment where people of all ages can discover archery, develop their skills, and enjoy its lifelong benefits,” Percival said.

“As a club rooted in the community, we also hope to encourage greater participation within the Islamic community while welcoming people of all backgrounds.”

With the affiliation finalised, Al Habibi’s Archery Club will now operate under the constitutional guidelines and technical standards of both Archery Guyana and World Archery.
