Labourer fatally stabbed during drinking session at Port Mourant; Suspect arrested


A 27-year-old labourer was fatally stabbed during an argument that erupted at a drinking session in Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, just after midnight on Tuesday.
Dead is Naresh Seecharran, called ‘Cat Man’, of Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.
According to Police, the incident occurred at about 00:00 hrs on July 7 while Seecharran and a 20-year-old construction worker of Lochaber, East Canje, Berbice, were among a group of persons consuming alcohol and playing music.
Police Headquarters said an argument ensued between the two men and quickly escalated into a scuffle, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Seecharran once to his neck before fleeing the scene on foot.
The injured man was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Acting on information received, Police later arrested the suspect at No. 19 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. He was escorted to the Whim Police Station, where he remains in custody.
Seecharran’s body has been taken to the Ramoo Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations into the fatal stabbing are continuing.
