Tough outing for Guyana at Pan Am U-19 Squash Championships

Guyana’s elite young squash contingent faced a gruelling test against the continent’s powerhouse nations at the 2026 Pan American U19 Squash Championships, enduring mixed fortunes across both the individual and team campaigns in El Salvador.
Facing premier opposition from North and South America, the team showed immense grit on the international stage, highlighting both the gap at the highest level and the bright future of Guyana’s next generation.
In the highly competitive Girls’ U19 Individual tournament, Guyana’s top junior prospects found themselves dealing with unforgiving draws right out of the gate.
Caribbean champion Kaylee Lowe ran into a clinical performance from Peru’s Bianca Minchon, bowing out in straight sets, while Emily Fung-A-Fat displayed tremendous resilience in her opening matchup against Paraguay’s Nicole Krauch.
Fung-A-Fat pushed her opponent to the limit, capturing a game before eventually succumbing to a 3-1 defeat. In the parallel draw, Safirah Sumner lost to Canada’s Olivia Bolger in straight sets (0-11, 1-11, 2-11).
While the main draws proved brutally short-lived for the Guyanese singles entrants, the parallel consolation draws offered valuable international court time as the squad pivoted to adjust to the high-altitude conditions and blistering pace of the San Salvador courts.
The story was much the same in the U19 Teams event, where Guyana’s women were drawn into a challenging placement cycle alongside regional giants.
Guyana found themselves tested against an experienced Ecuador side, going down 0-3. In the 9-11 placement category, they lost 1-2 and 0-3 to Argentina and Mexico, respectively.
Attention now quickly switches to the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships from July 10-16 in the British Virgin Islands, where Guyana’s rising stars will look to bounce back on familiar regional turf.
