Pensioner found dead in Corentyne trench

Rahman Jamesie Verona, a 68-year-old pensioner, was discovered dead in a trench at Number 73 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, on Thursday.

According to information received, Verona is believed to have fallen into a roadside trench sometime between 07:30 hours and 13:00 hours. His body was later found partially submerged in the water, with his head beneath the surface.

Residents of the community believe the man may have lost his footing, fallen into the trench, and drowned.

His body was recovered from the trench and transported to Radika Funeral Home, where it is being kept pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Verona’s death.
