Soesdyke resident dies in Coverden accident, two others injured


Cheryl Skeete, a 49-year-old resident of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, died on Wednesday night in a tragic accident along the Coverden Public Road, EBD.
In a release, Police Headquarters said the incident occurred around 18:45 hrs. It involved motor car #PAM 6733, driven by a 49-year-old female of Soesdyke, EBD, and motor car #PAM 2468, driven by a 44-year-old male of Coverden, EBD.
Skeete was a passenger travelling in the #PAM 6733 vehicle.
Police said initial enquiries revealed that motor car #PAM 2468 was proceeding north along the western driving lane of Coverden Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate behind motor car #PYY 615, when the driver attempted to overtake. However, the vehicle collided head-on with motor car #PAM 6733, which was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane.
As a result of the accident, both vehicles received extensive damage. Both drivers sustained injuries to their bodies, while Skeete was examined by Emergency Medical Technicians and pronounced dead at the scene.
The 49-year-old driver of motor car #PAM 6733 was extracted from the vehicle by members of the Guyana Fire Service and taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment. Her condition is regarded as critical.
The 44-year-old driver of motor car #PAM 2468 was also taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is regarded as critical but stable.
The body of Skeete was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
