20-Y-O woman found buried in Mahaica shallow grave 

A 24-year-old man is in Police custody after a 20-year-old woman was found dead in a shallow grave at Chelsea Park, Mahaica, ECD.

Dead is Kerriana Standford, a housewife who lived at Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara.

Police, in a statement, said the alleged murder is reported to have occurred on Friday July 3, 2026, about 20:00hrs at Chelsea Park, Mahaica. The woman’s body was discovered on Friday, July 10, 2026, buried in a shallow grave at the back of a residence at Chelsea Park, Mahaica.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had visited the residence of a 24-year-old porter of Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, before her disappearance. Acting on information received, Police visited the location, where the body of a female was discovered buried in a shallow grave at the back of the property.

Acting on further information received, Police contacted and arrested the suspect at Enmore, East Coast Demerara. He was escorted to the Mahaicony Police Station, where he was placed into custody.

The body was escorted to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where it was pronounced dead by a doctor. It was thereafter transferred to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
