More pupils passed in all four subject areas evaluated through the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) this year, according to CXC’s Director of Operations, Dr. Nicole Manning, at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, on Friday.

Dr. Manning unveiled these pass rates at a ceremony organised to announce this year’s results. The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) sets, marks, and evaluates the NGSA.

The individual pass rates for this year’s NGSA are:

    • English language – 73%
    • Social Studies – 65.28%
    • Science – 65.38%
    • Mathematics – 59.8%

Nearly 16,000 pupils wrote this year’s NGSA.

Notably, Dr. Manning said there was an increase in the number of pupils achieving full marks across all subjects. Moreover, no pupil received zero marks in English and Social Studies.

Last year, the pass rates were as follows:

    • English language – 69.25%
    • Social Studies – 64.77%
    • Science – 63.7%
    • Mathematics – 55.51%

“This gradual improvement that you are seeing year-on-year is something you should be happy about because it is saying that whatever interventions you are doing, it is having an impact,” Dr. Manning said.
