Regional U-19: Budhram and Ramdeholl impress, but Guyana lose to T&T

Guyana suffered a 24-run defeat against Trinidad and Tobago in the opening round of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19, 50-over championship, despite a spirited bowling performance from debutant Joshua Budhram and a determined unbeaten knock from Romario Ramdeholl.
Trinidad and Tobago appeared set for a much larger total after reaching 73-2 in the 17th over, but Guyana’s bowlers fought back strongly to restrict them to 167 all out in 40.5 overs.
Christian Lall led the Trinidad and Tobago batting effort with a composed 53 from 70 deliveries, including five fours. He received support from Christiano Ramanan, who made 33, and Tariq Richards, who added 31, as Trinidad and Tobago built a competitive total.
Guyana’s bowling attack played a key role in preventing Trinidad and Tobago from posting an imposing score. Off-spinner Budhram enjoyed a memorable debut, claiming 4-9 from 3.5 overs, while Ramdeholl took 2-21. Micah Amsterdam and Dhanesh Persaud also chipped in, finishing with figures of 2-35 and 2-44 respectively.
In reply, Guyana’s chase began shakily as openers Parmeshwar Ram (6) and Khush Seegobin (2) fell early, leaving their side at 10-2. Shamar Apple and Yannick Newton then combined for a 46-run partnership for the third wicket to revive hopes of a successful chase.
However, after their dismissals, wickets fell regularly and Guyana struggled to maintain the required momentum. Ramdeholl held the innings together with a determined unbeaten 41 from 82 balls, including two fours and one six, but he eventually ran out of partners as Guyana was bowled out for 143 in 34.3 overs.
Apple made 28 off 29 (3x4s, 1×6) and Newton 23 off 19 (3x4s, 1×6).
Trinidad and Tobago’s bowlers delivered under pressure to defend the total, with Daron Dhanraj leading the attack with 3-20. Amrit Pittiman also claimed 3-44, while Daniel Holder finished with 3-46 as they kept Guyana’s batsmen under control throughout the chase.
The margin of victory was the closest of the day, with the other two games being one-sided affairs.
Barbados comfortably defeated Windward Islands by 114 runs, and Leeward Islands thumped Jamaica by 120 runs.
