Six Guyanese to vie for individual gold at Junior Caribbean Squash Championships

It has been a momentous second day at the 2026 Junior Caribbean Squash Championships (CASA), and Guyana’s rising stars have completely lit up the courts, positioning themselves for an absolute gold rush in the individual finals in the British Virgin Islands
The home crowd in Guyana will be treated to multiple all-Guyanese blockbusters, highlighting an extraordinary show of depth from the host nation’s youth development.
The Girls’ Under 13 division will see an all-Guyanese showdown for the ultimate prize as Zoey McDonald produced the performance of the round, pulling off a stunning straight-games upset against Trinidad and Tobago’s top seed Gia Ghuran.
McDonald showed nerves of steel to steal a gruelling first game 14-12 before marching to an impressive 11-7, 11-7 victory.
She will face compatriot Tehani Munroe, who had to dig incredibly deep in a five-game thriller.
The third-seeded Munroe clawed her way back from 2-1 down against Trinidad’s Aaniyah Ramdeen to cross the finish line in a spectacular 11-8, 3-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8 classic.
There is guaranteed gold and silver in the Girls’ Under 17 category as well. Both Emily Fung-A-Fatt and Kaylee Lowe put on clinical displays, booking their final berths with flawless 3-0 semifinal victories.
Fung-A-Fatt swept aside fourth seed Lenna Hamati of Barbados 12-10, 11-6, 11-5, while second seed Lowe dismantled Trinidad’s Josie Thong 11-4, 11-2, 11-9.
Meanwhile, Alexis Arjoon remains the undisputed force in the Girls’ Under 11 round-robin draw. Undefeated and untouchable so far, Arjoon faces Barbados’ Denielle Benn in her final match, needing just one more victory to officially crown herself Caribbean champion.
The tally of Guyanese girls in the finals could yet rise to a staggering six, with Malia Maikoo still to contest her high-stakes Under 19 semifinal against Jamaica’s Elle Wilson.
The Boys’ Under 15 draw served up high drama and ultimate sibling rivalry. In a highly anticipated CASA rematch, fourth-seeded Egan Bulkan pulled off a majestic straight-games victory over his top-seeded brother, Ethan Bulkan, winning 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.
Egan’s reward for winning the family battle is a shot at the Caribbean crown against Jakob Noblett of the British Virgin Islands.
While Ethan Bulkan shifts his focus to a bronze medal playoff against Barbados’ Ethan Cyrus, plenty of Guyanese company hunting for podium spots flank him.
Zion Hickerson (Boys U13) will fight for bronze against Barbados’ Finn Graham, Shiloh Asregado (Boys U19) tackles Bermuda’s Eli Carpol, and Malia Maikoo (Girls U19) remains in the medal mix.
Down in the consolation draws, Guyana’s fight remains fierce.
Justin Ten-Pow (Boys U17) and Rylee Rodrigues (Girls U19) have battled through to their respective Plate Finals, while Zain Alli (BU11), Azaria Proffit (GU13), Kaiden Alli (BU17), Blake Edwards (BU19), and semifinalist Paige Mendonca (GU19) are all through to Bronze Plate finals.
