Plaisance man dies in accident on Camp Street


Gladwin Dorway, a 39-year-old resident of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, died early Sunday morning after an accident along Camp and New Market Streets, Georgetown.
In a release, Police headquarters said the accident involved motor car #PNN 832, driven by a 28-year-old female of South Cummingsburg, Georgetown; Dorway’s motorcycle, #CS 441; and another motorcycle, #CP 7083, used by a 27-year-old male of Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara.
Based on initial enquiries, the motor car was proceeding east along New Market Street and, upon approaching Camp Street, allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign before entering the intersection. The car then collided with motorcycle #CP 7083. The impact subsequently caused motorcycle #CS 441, which was also proceeding north along Camp Street, to collide with the right front side of the motor car.
As a result of the collision, both motorcyclists were flung onto the roadway and sustained injuries to their bodies. They were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where Dorway was pronounced dead.
The other motorcyclist remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, receiving medical treatment.
Police said CCTV cameras in the area would be reviewed.
Meanwhile, a breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the motor car returned readings of 0.25 micrograms and 0.21 micrograms. The driver of the motor car is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
