Cummings, Chaturgum and George ‘hit gold’ at National Youth Archery Championships


The curtains came down on an exciting weekend of competitive archery as Archery Guyana successfully concluded its National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026 on Sunday at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Following Saturday’s intense qualification rounds, Sunday’s action moved into the highly anticipated elimination and medal matches.
A total of 31 young athletes, representing various schools and private clubs, showcased exceptional skill, discipline, and sportsmanship on the shooting line.
In the Recurve Under-15 Men/Women Combined category, Brandon Cummings outlasted the field to secure the gold medal. Fatima Gani walked away with the silver, while Aalim Kahn claimed the bronze.
The Barebow Under-15 Women’s division saw Neepa Chaturgum hitting top form to take home gold.
She was flanked on the podium by Victoria Kum (silver) and Kaia Singh (bronze). Meanwhile, Samuel George dominated the Barebow Under-18 Men’s class to grab gold ahead of Christopher Cooblall and Fiaaz Karim, who took silver and bronze respectively.
President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, commended the dedication and courage of all participants, emphasizing that every competition serves as a vital learning experience to fuel future growth.
She further extended gratitude to the coaches, parents, sponsors, and partners who continue to drive the development of youth archery across the country.
The local governing body also recognised the crucial support of Commissioner of Police Dr Clifton Hicken and Sports Development Officer Colin Boyce for facilitating the use of the Eve Leary facility.
Hydration for the two-day tournament was provided by Guyana Beverages Inc. through its Oasis Water and Altitude beverages.
Additionally, the tournament received significant backing from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, and Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle.
Minister Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, also visited the venue during Saturday’s action to interact with and encourage the young prospects.
The championships were managed by an experienced team of technical officials, led by Director of Shooting Afzal Karim, Chairman of Judges Ryan McKinnon, and Results Manager Saeed Karim.
