Moruca man dies in mining camp incident

Dillon Tobin, a serviceman of Manawarun Village, Moruca, North West District, died on Tuesday after he was involved in a mining camp incident.

In a release, Police Headquarters said the incident occurred about 14:30hrs at Morwa Backdam, Cuyuni River.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 47-year-old excavator operator was operating a Doosan 225 excavator while Tobin was seated on the machine, when a tree branch reportedly recoiled and struck him, causing him to fall from the excavator.

The excavator operator immediately rendered assistance; however, Tobin later became motionless.

The body is presently at the mining camp and Police ranks are en route to the scene as investigations continue.
