One injured in five-vehicle collision at Conversation Tree intersection

Police are investigating a five-vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 08:50 hrs on Monday at the intersection of Conversation Tree Road and Railway Embankment, Blygezight, Georgetown.
The accident involved motor jeep PAD 3891, driven by a 58-year-old member of the Guyana Fire Service from Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and motor cars PAG 3236, PGG 9135, PAN 4053, and PAB 2512.
According to preliminary investigations, the jeep was travelling south along Conversation Tree Public Road when it approached the intersection. Police said the traffic signal was reportedly showing red in the jeep’s direction. It is alleged that the driver overtook two vehicles that were stationary at the traffic light before entering the intersection, where the jeep collided with motor car PAG 3236, which was proceeding west along Railway Embankment Road with the traffic signal reportedly showing green.
The impact caused the jeep to lose control, while motor car PAG 3236 continued forward and crashed into three stationary vehicles – PGG 9135, PAN 4053, and PAB 2512 – which were on Blygezight Public Road.
The driver of motor car PGG 9135, a 28-year-old man from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, sustained injuries in the collision. He was transported by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was examined by a doctor and admitted with a fractured right shoulder and facial lacerations. After receiving medical treatment, he was later discharged.
Police said breathalyser tests were administered to all of the drivers involved, and the results were below the legal alcohol limit.
Investigators also confirmed that CCTV cameras are installed in the vicinity of the intersection. The footage is currently being reviewed as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident continue.
