Several persons arrested after ganja worth $71 million, three pistols found in barrels from US

Customs officers from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), working alongside the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), seized 37.2 kilograms of suspected foreign cannabis valued at approximately $71 million, along with three pistols and 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition, after searching two incoming barrels from the United States on Tuesday.
According to a CANU release, the drugs were concealed in 70 transparent parcels inside the barrels.
Several persons have since been arrested and are assisting investigators.
The seizure forms part of ongoing joint operations by GRA and CANU to intercept illegal drugs and firearms hidden in cargo and strengthen Guyana’s border security.
