Regional U-19: Guyana’s winless run continues despite Hetmyer’s fightback

Justin Paris produced a stunning all-round masterclass to ensure Guyana’s winless run in the regional Under-19 50-over tournament continued, as Barbados secured a comprehensive 63-run victory at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Wednesday.
Another uninspiring collective batting performance proved to be Guyana’s undoing, sending them sinking to a third consecutive defeat.
Barbados laid the foundation for their victory by posting a highly competitive 258 before being bowled out on the penultimate ball of their 50 overs.
The innings was anchored by a commanding 78 from Jordan Graham, who found a willing and destructive partner in Paris.
Paris struck a fluent 67, while Seth Smith chipped in with a vital 39 to keep the scoreboard ticking.
The Guyanese bowlers managed to strike at regular intervals to prevent the score from breaching the 300-run mark.
Romario Ramdehol was the pick of the attack, claiming 3 for 27, while Gilbert Griffith provided solid support with 3 for 39.
Parmeshwar Ram also wheeled away to finish with 2 for 49.
Confronted with a target of 259, Guyana’s chase never truly found its rhythm. Adrian Hetmyer fought a lonely battle at the crease, compiling a defiant 61, but he lacked the necessary top-order support to genuinely threaten the Bajan total.
Dhanesh Persaud contributed 35, while Ramdehol (21) and Khush Seegobin (20) offered brief cameos, but the lack of substantial partnerships ultimately derailed the innings.
Having already starred with the bat, Paris returned to tear through the Guyanese lineup with the ball.
He delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 19, backed up by Rajeev Parsooram’s 2 for 49, to bowl Guyana out for 195 in 44.1 overs.
