With over 3,000 youth between ages six and 18 registered for this year’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/National Sports Commission, Teach Them Young/Learn to Swim Programme, impactful change and upskilling continues to be accomplished.

Youths in Regions Two, Five, Six and 10 have benefitted from the sessions so far, and whilst Essequibo has been completed with close to 200 benefitting, the Albion Pool in Berbice and Watooka Pool in Linden are currently hosting sessions, with over four hundred 400 kids combined, going through the paces.

National Sports Commission (NSC) Swim Coach Paul Mahaica and his team of Coaches, Instructors and Life Guard Assistants continue to ensure that sessions are safe, exciting and rewarding for the attendees.

A total of three one-hour sessions are held daily from 09:00h to 12:00h in Berbice and Linden.

Since the Teach Them Young/Learn To Swim programme recommenced in 2022 after the COVID pandemic, over 21,000 persons have passed through the programme, including adults and persons with disabilities.

Sessions in Georgetown will splash off on Monday at the Colgrain Pool, Camp Street, from 09:00h.

Meanwhile, as this significant programme continues to gain traction, Region Eight will be added later this year, for the first time.
