Reinforcing the strong and enduring strategic partnership between Guyana and the United States, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, led a high-level Guyanese delegation at the U.S.-Guyana Investment Enabling Forum, hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C.

The forum attracted an unprecedented level of participation from senior United States Government officials, underscoring Washington’s strong commitment to Guyana’s continued economic transformation and long-term development. The U.S. delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State, the Honourable Christopher Landau, and included Deputy Assistant Secretary for Caribbean Affairs Barbara Feinstein, Department of Energy Deputy Assistant Secretary Beth Urbanas, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Ambassador Hugo Yon.

During his opening remarks, Dr. Singh conveyed appreciation on behalf of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana to Deputy Secretary Landau and his team for facilitating the forum, their active engagement, and their continued support for advancing the Guyana-U.S. partnership. He also expressed appreciation to the BCIU for organising the important engagement.

Dr Singh emphasised that Guyana considers its relationship with the United States to be a special partnership, rooted in shared democratic values, mutual respect, and common strategic and economic interests. He noted that the United States remains Guyana’s largest source of foreign direct investment and its largest trading partner. Over the past decade, bilateral trade between the two countries has exceeded US$25 billion, with more than half of that trade occurring within the last two years alone.

Leading the Guyanese delegation throughout the plenary and technical sessions, Dr. Singh was supported by Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud and Chief Investment Officer of Go-Invest, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop. The discussions reinforced confidence in Guyana’s investment climate and highlighted the significant progress made under the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali in strengthening institutions, reducing investment risk, and creating a stable, transparent, and competitive environment for international business.

Looking ahead, Dr. Singh reaffirmed that President Ali and his Government remain firmly committed to further strengthening and expanding Guyana’s partnership with the United States through deeper investment, increased trade, and enhanced commercial cooperation. He encouraged greater participation by U.S. companies in Guyana’s development, emphasising that the Government welcomes more American businesses investing in Guyana, doing business with Guyanese companies, and becoming long-term partners in the country’s continued transformation.

The forum further demonstrated Guyana’s growing reputation as one of the world’s fastest-growing and most attractive investment destinations, while reaffirming the deepening economic partnership between Georgetown and Washington.

Guyana’s delegation also included Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Samuel Hinds; Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Robert Persaud; Chief Investment Officer of Go-Invest, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop; Counsellor in the Caribbean Executive Director’s Office at the Inter-American Development Bank, Ms. Navita Anganu-Ramroop; and Advisor to the Embassy of Guyana in Washington, D.C., Mr. Wazim Mowla.
