Zoo temporarily closed

See below the full release from the Protected Areas Commission: 

The Guyana Zoological Park will be temporarily closed to the public as preparatory works begin to support planned improvements to the facility.

The zoo holds a special place for many Guyanese, and these preparatory works are an important step in improving conditions for the animals in our care and preparing the site for future improvements. The closure is also necessary to ensure the safety of visitors, staff and the animals while these initial works are undertaken.

Animal welfare will remain the highest priority throughout this period, and every effort will be made to ensure the continued care and wellbeing of the animals during the closure. 

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as these important works are carried out, and we will continue to provide updates as works progress.
