Brazilian gold miner allegedly stabbed to death at Puruni River mining camp

Police are investigating the alleged murder of a 53-year-old Brazilian gold miner following a domestic dispute at a mining camp in the Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River.

Dead is Antonio Pereira Figueredo, 50, of Manaus, Brazil. The incident reportedly occurred at about 23:00 hrs on Saturday, July 18.

According to Police Headquarters, preliminary investigations indicate that Figueredo and his wife were involved in an argument at the mining camp when he allegedly sustained a stab wound to the abdomen.

Police visited the scene and found the man’s body lying on the ground next to one of the camps with what appeared to be a stab wound to the abdomen.

Acting on information received, investigators recovered a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the incident. The woman was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station, where she remains in custody.

Figueredo’s body was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor and later transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Police investigations are ongoing.
