MV Barima Tragedy: 12 specialist divers among 15-member support team from French Guiana 

Twelve specialist divers are among the 15-member team from the French Armed Forces in French Guiana that arrived in Guyana to assist with ongoing search, rescue, and recovery operations following the MV Barima tragedy.

According to a Monday afternoon post from President Dr. Irfaan Ali, the team is led by Lieutenant Commander Alexis Touboul. There are also divers, two medics, and one mechanic.

The passenger and cargo ferry capsized about seven miles offshore near the mouth of the Pomeroon River on Saturday night while travelling from Georgetown to the North West District.

The number of rescued remains at 67, while ten people have been confirmed dead. Search and rescue operations continue, with the Guyana Defence Force, Coast Guard, private vessels and local fisherfolk continuing to scour the area.
