Eccles man wanted for allegedly defrauding brothers of $2.61M in fake firearm licence scheme

Forty-year-old David Singh is wanted by the Police for allegedly defrauding two Best Plantation, West Coast Demerara, brothers of more than $2.6 million after being promised assistance in obtaining firearm licences.

Police Headquarters, in a statement on Tuesday, said Singh, is wanted for questioning in relation to the crime which occurred between June 1 and June 15 at Best Plantation, West Coast Demerara and Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

Singh’s last known address is Lot 1246 Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

In a statement, Police Headquarters said the alleged victims, a 35-year-old contractor and his 30-year-old brother, an operator, were reportedly approached by Singh, who claimed he could help them secure firearm licences.

During the process, the brothers allegedly paid a total of $2,610,000.

Police said they later received documents purporting to be approvals for firearm licences.
However, investigators said the documents were subsequently examined and determined to be fraudulent.

The matter was reported to Police on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Police said efforts are underway to locate Singh as well as another person believed to be connected to the alleged fraud. Investigations are ongoing.
