Police destroy ganja farm worth about $31 million


Police ranks destroyed a cannabis farm at Wiruni Village, Upper Berbice River, on Tuesday, burning narcotics worth about $31.1 million.
In a release, Police Headquarters said one field with a combined area of approximately six acres was located, on which approximately 80,000 suspected cannabis plants were discovered.
The plants ranged between two and five feet in height.
A quantity of dried cannabis weighing approximately ten pounds and a 20-foot by 10-foot makeshift camp were also discovered.
The suspected cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed by fire, along with the dried cannabis and makeshift camp.
The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is thirty-one million, one hundred and eighty-six thousand, three hundred and twenty-eight dollars ($31,186,328) in Guyana currency.
No arrest made. Investigations continue.
