Pedestrian dies in Amelia’s Ward accident


A 23-year-old pedestrian lost his life in an accident along the Amelia’s Ward Public Road, Linden, on Wednesday.
Dead is Jahiem Mc Bean, of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden. Mc Bean who is also mentally challenged, was heading home from a karaoke event at the Golden Taste Fish Shop when the accident occurred at about 23:30hrs.
According to Police Headquarters, the accident involved motor car PAF 6133 which was being driven by a 25-year-old resident of South Amelia’s Ward Housing Scheme.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the car was reportedly speeding along the northern side of Amelia’s Ward Public Road, when Mc Bean, who was standing on the northern side of the roadway, suddenly attempted to cross from north to south.
Police said the driver applied the brakes and swerved to the right in an effort to avoid a collision, but the left front portion of the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
Mc Bean sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
His body has since been taken to the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home and Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police also reported that breathalyser tests administered to the driver returned readings of 0.10 and 0.09 micrograms, respectively.
The driver remains in police custody as investigations continue. Mc Bean is popularly known in the community as a jovial, respectable and helpful young man. An outpouring of tributes were made by members of the community following news of his demise.
