Port Kaituma’s Maryann Bernard laid to rest after MV Barima tragedy

Sixth-eight-year-old Maryann Bernard was laid to rest in Port Kaituma, Region One, on Saturday, one week after the MV Barima tragedy.
Bernard had travelled to Georgetown to see her daughter who was visiting from the Cayman Islands. Last Saturday, she boarded the MV Barima ferry to get back home. However, she never made it back to Port Kaituma as the ferry sank during its voyage.
On Saturday, Bernard’s relatives paid their final respects to her.
Earlier Saturday, President Dr Irfaan Ali announced that an international and independent Commission of Inquiry will be established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the capsizing of the MV Barima, with the five-member panel to be announced on Sunday.
