Reg. 4 accounts for 86% of COVID-19 cases in Guyana

Forty-eight persons have tested positive for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) as of April 14, with Region Four accounting for 86% of the cases.

In her daily update on Tuesday, Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence reported that of the total number of positive cases, 14 persons are from the East Coast of Demerara, five from the East Bank of Demerara and 17 from Central Georgetown.

Meanwhile, Regions Three and Ten account for five percent each followed by Regions One and Six which account for two percent each.

The Ministry said of the 48 positive cases, four are known to have travelled from another country but the other 44 persons contracted the disease in Guyana.

To date, 224 persons were tested with 60% being males and 40% females, the Ministry said.

There are currently 21 persons in quarantine and 34 in isolation while five remain in the COVID ICU.

With no vaccines or medication available to treat the disease, patients are treated according to their symptoms.
