Guyana edged Trinidad & Tobago 23-18 to capture the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Southern Zone title, when the two countries clashed today (June 18) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in the Port of Spain.
The away victory sees Guyana winning the South Zone of the Rugby Americas North Cup and means Trinidad & Tobago join Barbados, Jamaica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines in being eliminated from the Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifiers.
Trinidad & Tobago entered the fixture in fine form. Having defeated Jamaica 34-14 and Barbados 39-5 the home side were well positioned to advance. The visiting Guyana, though, gave the men in red, white and black a genuine test match and ended their dreams of playing in Japan 2019.
Guyana must now wait to see who comes out on top in the North Zone of the Rugby Americas North Championship. Set to take place on July 23, Guyana will face the top qualifier from the Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Mexico.
