The Miss World Guyana pageant commenced in May 1966 and crowned its first Title-holder, Umbilita Van Sluytman, who was also known as the Independence Queen and became Guyana’s first placement and semi-finalist in the Miss World 1966 pageant.
Guyana is known for having one of the longest consecutive placements in the history of the Miss World pageant. On May 26, 2013, Natasha Martindale was awarded the franchise from Miss World Chairwoman & CEO, Julia Morley. Since taking over the franchise, Guyana has once again restored her glory on the international stage after a 40-plus year gap when Rafieya Husain placed in the top 10 at the Miss World competition in 2014, winning one of the most coveted prizes for her Beauty with a Purpose campaign. In 2015, the world witnessed Guyana winning its first talent title at the Miss World competition with Miss Lisa Punch at the helm and once again placing Guyana in the top 10.
