As a follow up to its health and sexuality workshop which was conducted last Wednesday at the Juvenile Detention Centre in Sophia, O-Zone Foundation today partnered with the Ministry of Public Health and conducted a voluntary HIV and TB testing clinic at the facility.
Mr. Brian Backer, Deputy Director of the O-Zone Foundation noted that because of the enclosed environment at the juvenile facility, all new intakes should be screened for TB, as a precautionary measure, since one undetected case in such an environment places both juveniles and staff at risk for infection.
He is hopeful that today’s exercise which saw all 36 juveniles being tested for TB, as well as several others for HIV would become a regular activity.
Mr. Backer expressed gratitude to Mr. Stan Gouveia of the Public Health Ministry for making the outreach possible.
