Promotions which were approved and granted to police ranks across the country by Assistant Commissioner, David Ramnarine while he performed the duties of Commissioner of Police, has been reversed with immediate effect by Commissioner, Seelall Persaud.
News Room was told that the decisions were reversed during last week when Seelall returned to work.
Two of the ranks who were promoted and subsequently had their positions revoked spoke with the News Room today. The ranks were reportedly told that their promotions were not “properly authorised” and that the person who approved the promotions (David Ramnarine) was also not authorised to do so.
David Ramnarine Performed the duties of Commissioner of Police for 100 days while Seelall Persaud who is the substantive Commissioner of Police was on leave.
During those 100 days in office, Ramnarine engaged the media on various matters.
The News Room was also told that the matter of the rescinding of the promotions has since gotten the attention of some very senior government officials and the issue is likely to be addressed at the level of Cabinet on Tuesday.
The promotions which were rescinded by Seelall Persaud affected Lance Corporals who were returned to their rank of constables, Corporals who were returned to their rank of Lance Corporal and Sergeants who were returned to their rank of Corporals.
It is understood and several other decisions made by the Assistant Commissioner were also rescinded.
