A senior police rank was today charged with causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates court.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Jermaine Grant was granted $300, 000 bail by Magistrate Clive Nurse for causing the death of 65 year old Annmarie Deonarine of Lot 144, Vreed-en-Hoop, New Road, West Coast Demerara back in September.
The police rank who pleaded not guilty to charge will return to court on December 16, 2016.
Grant, 28 years old of Fort Street Kingston, Georgetown was asked to lodge his passport with the police and is expected to check with the police weekly.
Two weeks ago, the DPP had recommended the causing death by dangerous driving charge for the police rank following the investigation which was conducted by the Traffic Chief, Dion Moore himself.
Grant on September 30th struck down the 65 year old woman who was reportedly walking along the road way , when his vehicle veered into her direction.
After the accident, Grant was removed from his duties as divisional detective and transferred to the Tactical Services Unit.
