A Parliamentary Opposition motion concerning the city’s Parking Meter Project was on Monday deferred by the Speaker of the National Assembly in light of a pending court matter on the said project.
According to the Speaker following advice, the matter is considered to be “sub judice” which simply means that a case is being considered by a judge and therefore is prohibited from public discussion.
The motion was presented in the name of Parliamentarian Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
During a Press Conference last week, Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo reiterated that the Peoples Progressive Party is totally against the project given how it was implemented.
“Let me say for the record, we’re opposed to the meter contract for the city. We’re opposed to it, period” Jagdeo said.
Meanwhile, Smart City Solutions is moving full steam ahead to have its parking meters erected just in time for Christmas.
Citizens will be expected to pay in order to park between the hours of 7am to 7pm up to six hours with each hour costing 200 dollars per hour.
In the coming months 157 meters will be installed by Smart City Solutions within the areas of Camp to Water Streets and from Quamina to Hadfield Streets.
