A Corentyne family plunged into a state of mourning after a young welder was killed during an accident on the Skeldon Public Road last evening (Sunday, March 26, 2017.)
20-year-old Irshad Mamood of Lot 51, No. 77 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice lost his life at about 20:30 hours on Sunday.
News Room understands that Mamood left his home to go pick up his girlfriend on his motorcycle CH 9545 and while he was heading east along the Skeldon Public Road, he collided with motor car PNN 7736 which was heading in the opposite direction.
Speaking with reporters earlier today (Monday, March 27, 2017), Mamood’s father, Towrik Allie, said he was at home when he received word that his son was involved in an accident and that he was seriously injured.
Allie added that when he arrived on the scene, his son was already picked up and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital. However, he was told that his son was flung several feet away from where the collision took place and that he was bleeding profusely from injuries to his head.
Allie disclosed that he wants justice for his son who was young and “full of life.” He described his son as a very willing person and a very loving and caring individual.
The News Room was told that after the accident, the driver of the motor car escaped the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
Investigations are ongoing.
