According to investigations done by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), aggravation led to the murder of a 37-year-old taxi driver at Line Path, Corriverton on Wednesday (July 05, 2017).
The police in a statement noted that Deonarine Laljit, of No.72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who died from stab wounds inflicted by a 15-year-old lad, was making sarcastic remarks about the teen’s sister when he retaliated.
The investigation revealed that the victim while operating his hire car picked up a fifteen-year-old male passenger known to him, at No.69 Village, enrouteCoren route to Line path. It is alleged that during the journey, Laljit began to make sarcastic remarks of the lad’s sister; during which process, the youth who was seated in the back seat whipped out a knife, and inflicted several wounds on him.
As a result, the victim stopped his vehicle, exited and collapsed a short distance.
News Room previously reported that an eyewitness who asked for his name to be withheld related that he was at his place of business when he was alerted by his wife that someone was at his gate.
Upon investigating, he found it was the Lalljit with a gaping wound to his neck. The man collapsed in a semi-conscious state and was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect who fled the scene was arrested in an abandoned house in Line Path and taken into custody.
The suspected murder weapon was also recovered.
