A search is on for a Venezuela-based Guyanese who went missing in the Barima River at about 2:00hrs this morning.
The Guyana Police Force said 25-year-old Edward Owneal, a fisherman went missing on the way to his girlfriend’s home.
Initial police investigations disclosed that Owneal along with 19-year-old Kamal Hosea of Aruka River North West District left the Kumaka landing intoxicated in a balahoo boat powered by 75hp engine, when it is alleged the boat hit a wood and veered into nearby bushes.
Kamal told police that he then looked around but did not see Owneal. He called for help and a nearby resident came and they both began searching for Owneal but did not find him.
The resident then took Kamal to Mabaruma Hospital where he is recovering from minor injuries, while the search is ongoing for Owneal.
