Two persons are in a critical condition after the motorcycle (CH 8732) they were on crashed into a forklift which was parked on the public road at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara in the wee hours of Sunday.
News Room has been able to identify the badly injured rider as 21-year-old Kevin Richard Balkissoon of Lot 73 Haller Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown; however we were unable to identify the female pillion rider.
The accident occurred at approximately 02:55hrs; their bodies landed in separate locations under a shop as a result of the impact. News Room observed that neither wore helmets and as a result, they suffered serious head injuries.
It took at least 10 minutes before residents in the area decided to take Balkissoon and his female friend to the Leonora Diagnostic Center. Residents were initially scared to move the unconscious victims and had contacted the police. News Room was subsequently informed that the victims were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an ambulance given the severity of their injuries.
The police took more than 30 minutes to arrive at the scene even though the Leonora Police Station is located less than five minutes away. At the time of the accident, Balkissoon appeared to be heading in the direction of Georgetown.
